Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you treat?

I treat individuals above 13 years of age. I have extensive experience treating a variety of conditions including: depression, anxiety, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder), seasonal affective disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and various phobias. We can address issues such as sleeping difficulties (insomnia), relationship challenges, work stress, and life stage transitions.

Do you offer a consultation prior to my first appointment?

Yes! Feel free to reach out and schedule a 10-minute no-charge phone consultation. During this phone call, we can explore your goals, my treatment philosophy, fees, and address any questions or concerns you may have. At the end of the consultation, we can schedule your initial appointment.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, I am accepting new patients for in-person visits at my Plainview office. The office is located in the Island Professional Center, which is conveniently located for patients coming from all areas of Long Island. There is plenty of parking and an elevator for accessibility.

I am also accepting patients who live in New York, Rhode Island, and Florida for video visits (telepsychiatry). Please contact me for more information regarding the virtual services.

Do I need to do anything before my first appointment?

After an initial phone consultation, you will complete the Practice Policies and Agreement, which includes standard privacy forms, HIPAA information, and a financial agreement. By completing the paperwork beforehand, it allows us to use our full appointment time to talk and address all of your concerns.

What can I expect in my first appointment?

During your first appointment, we will work together to form an action plan to meet your goals and needs. That will involve getting to know you as a person and understanding who you are as an individual. I will listen and conduct a thorough evaluation. At the end, I will share my thoughts and we will discuss treatment recommendations. Recommendations may include changes to your diet or exercise regimen, prescription medications, lab tests, or referrals to other doctors as appropriate.

How long are appointments?

Initial appointments are 80 minutes and follow up appointments are 25 minutes. Follow up appointments of 50 minutes are available upon request.

Can I see an outside therapist?

Of course. For many patients, talk therapy (a.k.a. psychotherapy) is an important component of their recovery. You are welcome to see me for medications and an outside therapist for talk therapy. To ensure the best care, I will ask that you sign a release of information to allow us to collaborate and discuss your care.

Do you take insurance?

At this time, I do not accept insurance at my practice. Oftentimes, insurance companies create significant barriers to care that can affect our therapeutic relationship. By not taking insurance, I am able to offer a superior level of care and attention to my patients. That means no constraints in terms of the duration and frequency of appointments, and flexibility to create an individualized treatment plan that will best suit your needs. In addition, by not submitting claims to your insurance company, your care remains completely private.

If you have out-of-network benefits, you are welcome to submit claims to your insurance company. Many patients are able to receive partial or full reimbursements, depending on your specific out-of-network benefits. I can provide you with an invoice (a "superbill") to help you with this process.

Do you speak any other languages?

Yes, I am fluent in Spanish and welcome Spanish-speaking patients.
